September 2010 saw British Thornton complete the second phase of a 2 year phased refurbishment of the science laboratories at the University of the West of England, Fernchay Campus. Working closely with the estates department at the university, British Thornton developed and provide a bespoke benching solution to meet the need of the university faculty and its students.
The laboratory system provided within the science faculty utilised our fixed perimeter benching system as well as a cantilever system ensuring all services are enclosed but easily accessed within the service voids. Services required at worktop level such as gases, water, power and data are delivered via a floor to ceiling service dropper and gantry solution. To complement the perimeter benching and island benching loose storage solutions were also provided together with a full turnkey fume cupboard installation and vented storage cupboards for safe chemical storage.
