OHSAS 18001 - Health and Safety Management

The internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 certification demonstrates British Thornton’s commitment to continual improvement in health and safety performance and to compliance with legislation through maintenance of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). More information on OHSAS 18001 can be found on the BM Trada website.


RIBA CPD Accredited

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program to ensure their members maintain, enhance and increase their professional knowledge. RIBA members must complete over 35 hours of CPD and earn at least 100 learning points each year to retain their RIBA membership. RIBA accredited CPD seminars earn double points. British Thornton delivers a RIBA accredited CPD seminar entitled ‘Furniture Specifications and the Modern Educational Environment’ specifically for architects and other specifiers. Constructionline Accredited

Constructionline provide an up-to-date register of pre-qualified suppliers for construction contracts in the UK. They pre-qualify all of their suppliers to government standards, saving time and money for both buyers and suppliers during the pre-qualification tender process. Building Confidence Accredited

Working in partnership with Lend Lease, Achilles has developed Building Confidence - a supplier pre-qualification and accreditation service for the UK construction industry. To achieve level 5 (Contractor/Installer) all management systems within the company have been assessed and approved by one of Achilles auditors'. CHAS is established as the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the uk. Chas assesses health and safety arrangements for all types of suppliers (inc construction) the aim being to save time and resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication in the first stage of of competence assessment. The Disability Symbol

The symbol is awarded by Jobcentre Plus to employers in England, Scotland and Wales who have made commitments to employ, keep and develop the abilities of disabled staff. More information can be found on the website.


Forest Stewardship Council

FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. It was founded in 1993 in response to public concern about deforestation and demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme. More information can be found on their website

FSC® certification

British Thornton has attained FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification and will endeavour to use only materials that are certified as FSC 100%, FSC Mix, FSC Mix credit or PEFC certified in the manufacture of their product. We continuously assess our suppliers’ ability to conform to the same standard thereby ensuring that the chain-of-custody is unbroken from producer to manufactured product.
